why we BLAIR.
Established in Boston, MA, the Blair B*tch Project (BBP) was inspired after attending a hip-hop meetup at a local recording studio known as The Sound Lab in Brockton, MA.
Drawing scores of songwriters, producers, musicians, photographers, and videographers from around Massachusetts, there was only one woman in the room. That young woman was a Boston Area recording artist by the name of kei (@keiweifruit). Outpacing, out rapping, and outperforming every other artist there, her fearlessness inspired us to highlight more women like her.

The Blair B*tch Project was inspired by Daniel Myrick & Eduardo Sanchez’s fictional 1992 Blair Witch film series, where they detailed the legend of a powerful witch who lived in the woods of Black Hills, MD.
Hoping to establish a Halloween tradition of our own, we drew inspiration from Massachusetts' dark history of persecuting extraordinary women during the Salem witch trials in the 17th century (especially those enslaved and unable to speak for or defend themselves). In the interest of reclaiming this history, and providing Boston a much-needed Halloween attraction, Blair was established to discover, highlight and celebrate the hottest, most kick-ass BIPOC creative women we could find.
Similarly, our inclusion of the word B*tch reflects our reclamation of language that has been used derogatorily toward women and femmes alike.

Blair welcomes any and everyone, regardless of how they identify so long as they recognize this space was created primarily to celebrate BIPOC women and femmes whose voices are often overlooked and undervalued across the board.
Our aim is and has always been to provide a safe space for them while simultaneously providing them with well-deserved praise.

Blair doesn’t take unsolicited artist submissions for our annual event, however we do look to the community for artists to highlight as a part of our COVEN series. At select times throughout the year we will open submissions for these opportunities. Stay tuned.
